Dennis Wideman Traded To Florida For – Our Resident Hockey Guru’s Reaction

Boozeworthy.com -  YESSSS HE’S GONE!!! HE’S REALLY GONE!! OH MAN, I HAVEN’T BEEN THIS HAPPY SINCE HAL GILL LEFT TOWN.

Where is Dennis? I want to throw him a going away party and spare no expense. This is reason to celebrate. I would have traded the guy for a sack of toenail clippings, but we even got a good winger! Great day, people. Great day.

I think The Booze pretty much sums up Bruins fans feelings well here. While Dennis Wideman showed great potential after a breakout year in 2008-2009 scoring 50 points, the smoke and mirrors quickly faded revealing the true stiff that we loved to hate this past season. Wideman was always in the wrong place at the wrong time and single handedly lost numerous games. When he got to the big stage in the playoffs I remember he had a game winning goal and the garden went wild. I thought it might have been the turning point for the kid and was really pulling for him but he quickly reverted back to Julio Lugo status as if he was intentionally trying to throw the games. I’m sure he will go on and have great success in the pressure cooker that the Florida Panthers play in every night (that was a joke), but it just wasn’t going to work out for him here.

Maybe. Meet Taylor Hall. It’s either going to be him or Tyler Seguin with the number two overall pick in the upcoming draft. Bruins fans are going to be happy with either one, I promise you. Both of these guys are can’t miss prospects. It’s just a matter of waiting to see what Edmonton does.

Lets go B’s, don’t let these pesky Flyers stick around for another game. It’s time to take care of business and get rested up for the Eastern Conference Finals. What better night to win the series than on Bobby Orr night?

Shit, The Bruins Have No Chance This Series

Who am I to argue with this kid. It was skeptical at first, but once he put those shades on I knew this kid meant business and our chances were sunk. I mean when you go through the effort to put together such a well produced top of the line video something tells me he has inside information. Oh well, there is always next year.

Thanks to The Booze for the tip

16 Days, 14 Potential Games, Bruins and Celtics Second Round Schedule Is Released

Celtics-Bruins

Lord beer me strength, because there is no way I am going to make it through these next two and a half weeks. As the title so eloquently says, the Celtics and Bruins could potentially play 14 games over a 16 day span. There is no easing into it either. On May 1st, 3rd, and 7th both teams are taking the ice/court at the same time. Looks like it is time to dust off the old tube TV and get it going next to the flat screen. Or you could use this as the perfect excuse to buy a second flat screen. Orrrrrr you could just go to bar, drink lots of beer, and watch them both at the same time with the Red Sox scattered on a few random TV’s as well (my personal favorite).

Either way, this is going to be a rough couple weeks. You know damn well the Celtics aren’t going to make it easy regardless of if they are winning or losing and it is impossible not to have your heart racing for two hours during a playoff hockey game. The only sensible thing to do is call in sick with a bad case of explosive diarrhea and tell your boss you will see him on the 17th.

Saturday, May 1, 12:30 PM Bruins Game 1 @ Boston
Saturday, May 1, TBA Celtics Game 1 @ Cleveland
Monday, May 3, 7 PM Bruins Game 2 @ Boston
Monday, May 3, TBA Celtics Game 2 @ Cleveland
Wednesday, May 5, 7 PM Bruins Game 3 @ Philadelphia
Friday, May 7, 7 PM Bruins Game 4 @ Philadelphia
Friday, May 7, TBA Celtics Game 3 @ Boston
Sunday, May 9, 3:30 PM Celtics Game 4 @ Boston
Monday, May 10, 7 PM Bruins Game 5* @ Boston
Tuesday, May 11, TBA Celtics Game 5* @ Cleveland
Wednesday, May 12, TBA Bruins Game 6* @ Philadelphia
Thursday, May 13, TBA Celtics Game 6* @ Boston
Friday, May 14, 7 PM Bruins Game 7* @ Boston
Sunday, May 16, 3:30 PM Celtics Game 7* @ Cleveland

* if necessary

I’m loving the three day break for the Celtics in between games one and two. You know going into Cleveland that they are in for a beating and as much as I hate to say it could be down 0-2. If that’s the case they have plenty of time to regroup and try and figure out a new game plan before game three. Usually I complain about how long the NBA playoffs take but with this team you can give me as much time off as you want. No one is going to benefit from the rest more than the Celtics.

Youth Movement: Bruins Need Help From Baby B’s

**Originally posted by The Booze @ www.boozeworthy.com**

The Maple Leafs 5-1 loss last night to the New York Rangers secured a top 3 pick for the Bruins in June’s draft. Today, Bruins fans can smile at the prospect of seeing a promising young star wear the black and gold next season. Taylor Hall, Tyler Seguin, Brett Connolly, and Cam Fowler all appear poised to make an immediate impact on an NHL club. The future looks bright indeed.

But the youth movement doesn’t start at Tuesday’s draft lottery. There is still some unfinished business for the 2009-2010 team to take care of. With injuries to Dennis Seidenberg, Mark Stuart, and Andrew Ference, Bruins fans are already getting a glimpse of the future. 23 year-old Adam Mcquaid and 21 year-old Andrew Bodnarchuk have been thrust into Boston’s defensive rotation in the thick of a playoff race.

With very little NHL action on their resume, the two blueliners will have to quickly acclimate themselves to the fast-paced tempo of playoff hockey. McQuaid and Bodnarchuk join 26 year-old Johnny Boychuck and 24 year-old Matt Hunwick on a team with the #2 defense in the NHL in goals against.

With three games remaining in the regular season, the Bruins sit 1 point ahead of 9th place New York and 2 points behind 6th place Montreal. With the season on the line, those four young defenseman will have to play sound defense in their own end and show a willingness to take shots and contribute to the league’s worst offense.

Five of the Bruins six defenseman are under the age of 27. Their teammate between the pipes is only 23. A draft is fastly approaching, but the future is now. Boston battles Buffalo tonight at the TD Bank Garden, 7:00 PM.

Thornton Takes Care Of Business; Bruins Do Not

A little less than two weeks ago Matt Cooke knocked out Marc Savard with what was undoubtedly a dirty hit. There was no retaliation by the Bruins at the time and no subsequent suspension by the NHL. Since that day we have learned that Savard suffered a grade two concussion and will likely miss the remainder of the season. All the while, Bruins fans have been looking forward to this game hoping that something would be done to try and settle the score (although nothing can make up for losing the teams number one center).

Less than two minutes into the game Cooke hoped the boards for his first shift and immediately Shawn Thornton picked him out and challenged him. Everyone in the arena knew it was coming, including Cooke, and Thornton gave it everything he had giving Cooke a solid beating before the sweaters got pulled over the heads and the refs broke it up. Thornton even had to be restrained as Cooke made his way to the penalty box. Revenge had been taken, and it was done the right way.

Unfortunately, this was the only fight the Bruins showed in the game as the Penguins dominated the ice in a 3-0 victory. You would think that an early fight in honor of your best player coupled with a rare fight from Zdeno Chara would provide an emotional spark to the Bruins but that just wouldn’t be there style. Instead they played sloppy hockey and never really had a chance.

The Bruins remain in the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference with 74 points, three ahead of Atlanta and the New York Rangers. But like the Celtics, if they can’t figure it out by then does anyone think they have a chance to go anywhere? I don’t.
